Mediterranean MPAs
1. develop a comprehensive scientific knowledge base
Integrating science, nature-based technological solutions, digitalization, and social engagement, EFFECTIVE aims to implement an Ecosystem-Based Management System (EBMS) for the protection and restoration of blue natural capital in the Mediterranean.
2. Restore damaged environments
Through targeted restoration activities in four pilot zones (Mar de l’Empordà, Delta de l’Ebre, Northern Sardinia, and Cavo Greco), the project will enhance the resilience of marine ecosystems and facilitate faster recovery compared to natural processes.
3. Promote biodiversity recovery
EFFECTIVE will support the recovery of marine biodiversity by maintaining a fine ecological balance and promoting biomass growth. These efforts will lead to increased ecosystem resilience and enhanced natural carbon sequestration.
4. Protect restored areas for future generations
By fostering sustainable economic activities, the project aims to ensure the long-term protection and viability of restored marine areas.
